Privacy Policy
Last Updated: April 13, 2025
Welcome to Svar ("we," "us," or "our"). We are committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Svar (the "App"). Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the application.
Information We Collect
We may collect information about you in a variety of ways. The information we may collect via the App depends on the content and materials you use, and includes:
- Personal Data: Personally identifiable information, such as your name and email address, that you voluntarily give to us when you complete the onboarding process after your first login. We also collect information on how you heard about us via a dropdown selection during onboarding. Your phone number is used for authentication via Firebase Authentication but is typically managed by Firebase and linked to your user ID.
- Usage Data (Metadata): When you save audio to History or Bookmarks, we store metadata associated with that conversion in our database (Firebase Firestore). This metadata includes the title you provide, the customization settings (rate, pitch, voice gender), the original text you converted (if saved), and timestamps.
- Mobile Device Data: We do **not** actively collect device information like device ID, model, manufacturer, operating system, or location information through the App itself. Firebase services might collect some device identifiers for authentication or security purposes according to their own policies.
Important Note on Audio Data: The core text-to-speech conversion process happens **entirely on your device**. The text you input and the audio files generated by the App's local TTS engine are **not** sent to our servers or any third-party servers for processing or storage, unless you explicitly save metadata to History or Bookmarks which uses Firebase Firestore.
Use of Your Information
Having accurate information permits us to provide you with a smooth, efficient, and customized experience. Specifically, we may use information collected about you via the App to:
- Create and manage your account.
- Associate saved History and Bookmarks metadata with your account.
- Respond to your inquiries or provide user support (if contact information is provided).
- Improve the App and troubleshoot issues (based on aggregated, non-identifiable data or user feedback).
- Compile anonymous statistical data for internal use.
Disclosure of Your Information
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties. We may share information we have collected about you in certain situations:
- By Law or to Protect Rights: If release is necessary to comply with law, enforce our site policies, or protect ours or others' rights, property, or safety.
- Third-Party Service Providers: We use Firebase (a Google platform) for backend services including authentication (Firebase Auth), database (Firestore), and potentially cloud functions for maintenance. These services have their own privacy policies governing how they handle data.
- Other Third Parties: We will not share your Personal Data with any other third parties without your consent.
Storage and Security of Your Information
We use Firebase services, which employ administrative, technical, and physical security measures to help protect your personal information stored in their databases (Firestore). While we have taken reasonable steps to secure the personal information you provide to us via Firebase, please be aware that despite our efforts, no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and no method of data transmission can be guaranteed against any interception or other type of misuse.
Audio files generated by the App are stored locally on your device and are subject to your device's security. We do not have access to these local files.
Your Data Rights
You have certain rights regarding your personal information:
- Access and Update: You may review or change the information in your account (Name, Email, optional Gender/DOB) at any time via the Profile screen in the App.
- Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated data via the "Delete Account" option in the App's Profile screen. This process will remove your user profile, history metadata, and bookmark metadata from our Firebase Firestore database. Please note that associated local audio files stored only on your device must be deleted by you manually or through OS mechanisms, though the client-side deletion process attempts to assist with this. Backup data on Firebase may persist for a limited time according to their policies.
Policy for Children
We do not knowingly solicit information from or market to children under the age of 13. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible.
Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy within the App or on our website. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted.
